Minister Stephen M.
Simpson
I first started the ministering in1987 as a licensed local
pastor with the United Methodist Church. I served as a
pastor at Sanderson United Methodist Church (UMC) and
Marathon UMC in Texas. I had been formerly assigned to the
New Mexico and Northwest Texas Conference and North Texas
Conference in the 80s and 90s.
I left the UMC in 1997 and joined with Assemblies of God
Independent, an international fellowship out of Southern
California. This same year my wife, Leslie, and I started
Voice of the Good Shepherd, Inc—a nonprofit ministry to help
the homeless and others.
I worked as a volunteer chaplain in Dallas and with Collin
County Juvenile Detention Center. We moved to San Antonio in
late 1999 and my wife Leslie was diagnosed with cancer in
2000. She passed away in August 2003 and I relocated to New
Braunfels, TX in 2005.
The ministry due to my misery suffered greatly, only helping
out when contacted and not seeking and searching to find
God’s children who needed help.
In 2007 my brother Bruce contacted me with his wife Sally
and said the Lord was leading him to help others and perhaps
we could do it together. Sally reminded me of a vision
Leslie and I had back in the 80s and that is ‘minister to
the ministers’. Leslie and I realized that many people left
the pulpit because they had no one to minister to them and
in most cases limited funds in which to vacation from the
daily routine.
What this ministry hopes to accomplish is to have funding
available to assist all denominations’ pastors and ministers
to a retreat. We would like to start giving by helping with
monetary assistance and maybe one day building a retreat in
the Hot Springs, Arkansas area.
As the Good Shepherd left the 99 and searched for the lost 1
in scripture, we feel we must go minister to that pastor to
help him build him or her up and his or her
family…emotionally, spiritually, and financially so they can
continue their good work in the name of the Lord.
